Our Story

Baked in the early hours, delivered before you open

Localinsightnotes started in 2013 out of a simple frustration: cafe owners in Sheffield had to choose between baking on-site with limited kitchen space, or accepting bread and pastries that had travelled too far and lost their texture by the time they arrived. We began with one delivery route and a handful of wholesale ovens working through the night, and built the business around one rule — nothing leaves the bakery unless it can be on a counter within a few hours of coming out of the oven.

Thirteen years on, that rule has not changed, even as the business has grown around it. We now work with a team of 11 people covering production, quality checks and morning delivery runs across Sheffield, and we have completed 1,515 delivery jobs for 1,144 cafes and small food businesses since we opened. Of those clients, 344 have come back for repeat orders, which tells us more about consistency than any slogan could.

Mission

To give cafes across Sheffield a reliable supply of freshly baked goods without asking them to run a bakery themselves. We handle the early starts so they don't have to.

Values

Punctual delivery, honest pricing, and direct communication with kitchen staff. We reply to requests within roughly 2 hours and we don't overpromise on volume we can't bake.

Our sourdough order arrives at 6:40 every morning, no exceptions, even on the icy mornings last February. Staff know my name and my usual order changes without me having to repeat myself twice.

Good bread, consistent croissants, fair pricing for a small independent cafe like mine. My one gripe is the paper delivery notes get soggy in wet weather — a small thing, but worth fixing.

★★★★★

Switched from baking in-house to using this delivery after our old oven broke down. Saved us the cost of a replacement and the pastries sell just as well at the counter.

Decent product, but during the summer heatwave a batch of cream buns arrived slightly soft. They replaced the order free of charge the next day and explained the cooling van issue, so I can't fault the handling of it.

★★★★★

Ordering is simple: I send a message the night before, confirmation comes within the hour, bread is on the counter by opening time.

We've used this supplier for almost two years now for our weekend brunch service. The scones and cinnamon rolls are reliably good, and the invoicing is straightforward with monthly billing rather than paying per drop, which suits our accounts. Only downside is the choice of gluten-free options is still fairly limited, though I understand that's a smaller part of their range.

Hillsborough, Sheffield
★★★★★

Honestly one of the easier suppliers I've dealt with in eleven years of running a cafe. No fuss, no excuses, just bread on time.

We opened our cafe last spring and needed a bakery partner who could work around a tiny kitchen with no proving space. This team adjusted our order sizes weekly as we found our footing, without ever making it feel complicated. A year on, our pastry case is one of the things customers comment on most.
